Project Overview

This transformative project established a national-scale research data platform in Vietnam, addressing the critical absence of structured infrastructure for sharing and managing scientific data. The cloud-based system enables VinaREN institutions to store, access, and reuse research datasets, supporting Vietnam's digital transformation agenda and promoting open science principles across the country's research ecosystem.

Key Activities

Current Data Practices Assessment

Conducted comprehensive surveys and legal reviews to evaluate data storage, sharing policies, and institutional readiness across Vietnam's research institutions.

Architecture Design

Studied global architectures including AWS, Lambda, and OpenStack to develop a modular platform supporting streaming and batch data for analytics and storage.

Platform Development

Built comprehensive user/data management, security, and ingestion modules using open-source tools, hosted at https://openscience.vn.

Data Integration Initiative

Mobilized researchers to voluntarily upload nearly 3,000 datasets to demonstrate platform capabilities and build initial content repository.

Code of Conduct Development

Created preliminary user regulations to guide ethical sharing and platform participation, currently undergoing stakeholder review process.

AI4VN Forum Dissemination

Introduced platform at AI4VN Forum in September 2023, targeting national research institutions and AI stakeholders for maximum impact.

Challenges & Gaps

Significant Budget Reduction

Original budget of EUR 50,000 was reduced to EUR 20,000, substantially limiting planned activities and implementation scale, affecting project scope and deliverables.

Lack of Formal Data Collection

Financial constraints significantly hindered the ability to contract institutions for systematic dataset contribution, relying instead on voluntary contributions from researchers.

Workshop Cancellation

Planned public launch workshop could not be held due to funding limitations; AI4VN Forum substituted as the primary dissemination channel for platform introduction.

Future Directions

FPT Corporation will provide comprehensive support for future platform hosting and modeling capabilities, enabling significant scale and simulation enhancements.
